Metal Gear Solid is the third game in the Metal Gear Series, and the first to use 3D graphics. Due to 8-year gap between Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake and MGS, many saw this as a comeback for the series. Hideo Kojima made the game after being disappointed with how his ideas for MG2:SS were limited by the MSX2's hardware, and thought he could do much more with them if rendered in 3D on a faster system with CD-quality sound. It is often regarded as the best game in the series, and one of the greatest games of all time.

Plot

Metal Gear Solid takes place in 2005 on Alaska's Shadow Moses Island. A nuclear weapons disposal facility is situated on the island, which is seized by FOXHOUND who then threaten the US Government with a nuclear attack if they do not receive the remains of Big Boss within 24 hours. Solid Snake is sent to rescue the hostages, Kenneth Baker and Donald Anderson, and find out whether or not the terrorists have the ability to launch a nuclear strike, disarming them if they do.
