Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater is the first canonical title in the Metal Gear series, and the 5th to be released. It is set in the Cold War, and follows a story of Naked Snake as he is sent to Russia to rescue the kidnapped inventor of a nuclear-equipped warmachine, called the Shagohod.


An expanded version was later released called Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence.
